Geography
The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis is in the Caribbean. Neighbouring islands are Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda and Montserrat.

Basseterre is the capital of St Kitts and Nevis. Charlestown is the main town on Nevis.

The islands of St Kitts and Nevis are volcanic with mountainous interiors.

The climate is tropical; winds provide a warm breeze.

Environment
The Environment Division, within Ministry of Culture and Environment, is responsible for the implementation of the National Conservation and Environmental Protection Act.

The Act covers beach protection, coastal preservation, forestry management, soil conservation and wildlife management.

Architecture
The St Christopher Heritage Society is a voluntary organization, established in 1989. One of the Society's aims is to preserve the monuments, buildings and historic sites of St Kitts.

Perhaps the most well known architectural monument in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis is the Brimstone Hill Fortress, a World Heritage site. The Fortress, built between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, is said to be one of the best preserved historical fortifications in the Americas.

On the island of Nevis, eighteenth and nineteenth century houses can be seen in Charlestown. Preservation of these Colonial buildings is a priority in Nevis.

Population
The population of St Kitts and Nevis was estimated at 52,000 in 2018.

Languages
English is the official language in St Kitts and Nevis.

Religion
The majority of the people in St Kitts and Nevis are Christians.

Food
Local dishes in St Kitts and Nevis are "goat water" (mutton stew) and rice and peas. Rotis, pancakes filled with curried meat and vegetables, are eaten. Fried johnny cakes are often served with meals.

The daily catch of fish plays an important part in the diet.

Vegetables include cabbages, carrots, cassava, okra, onions, pumpkins and sweet potatoes. Breadfruit is also grown.

Fruits cultivated are bananas, mangoes, papayas and passion fruit.

Soursop fruit is used to make a milky juice and other juices are available. Beer (Carib) and rum are produced locally. Cane Spirit Rothschild, produced in St Kitts, is made with cane sugar rather than molasses.
